Limited Release- Waiheke Island Reserve Chardonnay 2018
100% barrel fermented, 100% French oak, 50% new 50% old, 30% malo, 100% wild fermented. You can smell on the nose that the mineral, flinty funky character from the wild yeast. It has got some sort of very nice peachy, citrucy fruit undernith, the longer it seats in the glass the longer the fruit will come out. New Zealand style chardonnay, 80s 90s very ripe, high alcohol, lots of malo style, quite heavy. These days the oak has better quality, wild fermentation give great complexity and richness on the nose and more creamy oily texture but because our chardonnay vines are quite young and they don’t get sun burned on the eastern shady side ov vina del mar the wine still has a lively backbone acidity.
